Christmas Light Installation on the Gravois Arm
Sheltered water on the lake’s north side — cove houses, quiet docks, and reflections that do half the work.
Sheltered water, north side
The Gravois branches off the main channel on the north side and runs up toward Gravois Mills, with the Rocky Mount roads on one shoulder and the Morgan County shoreline on the other. It is narrower than the main channel and considerably calmer, and by December the water back in the coves goes glass-flat most evenings before dark.
Still water is the best thing that can happen to a lighting design. A traced dock line on the Gravois doubles itself; a warm-white roofline picks up a second, softer version of itself on the surface below. We lean into that here rather than trying to overpower it. Fewer runs, better placed, will beat more of everything on water this quiet.
Where the design goes
The dock line
Posts, rails, and roof edges in the same warm white as the house. On a sheltered cove this is often the part people talk about — the reflection gives you a second display for nothing.
The house above
Eaves, gables, and the lakeside face, which on most Gravois lots is the real front of the house. The road side gets the entry, the drive, and whatever trees have earned it.
Cove by cove
Addresses on the Gravois are not always obvious from a map, and we have stopped expecting them to be. Most of what we get told is a cove name and a mile marker, which is usually plenty. When it is not, one photo of the drive and one from the water settles it in a minute.
Second homes and empty drives
A great deal of Gravois property is used hard in summer and lightly in winter. That works in your favor. We quote from photographs, install while the house is empty, set the timers to come on at dusk, and send a picture the first evening the design is lit — then come back in January to take it all down and store it. You arrive to a finished house rather than a project.

Tell us the cove and we’ll talk through what the water will do with your roofline.
Quiet water, doubled.
Send the cove, the mile marker, or the address with a photo or two. We’ll come back with a design and one clear number covering the whole season.
